ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Housing and land use policies, and rental provider actions/inactions, affect real people’s lives and our society as a whole.
Land ownership/use in this country has not ceased to be inequitable. We still need to work against oppression and systemic racism in our own practices as rental providers, and in legislation. We were not all born with the same level of access to resources. These and other landlord/tenant imbalances need addressing.
Our society will be strengthened by availability of stable, affordable, safe, healthy, pleasant housing and an overall strong safety net.
Tenants deserve to have agency, and to be treated with dignity.Housing is a human right, and everyone has the right to a good neighborhood.

PLEDGE

I will strive to be a partner with tenants.
I will treat tenants how I would want to be treated.
I will do everything I can to avoid no-cause evictions.
I will be reasonable in rent increases to existing tenants.
I will not overburden tenants with late fees, and will work with them on arranging a reasonable payment plan for overdue rent/fees.
I will do all that the law expects/requires including keeping the home in needed repair.
I will learn about and incorporate non-discriminatory practices, such as by taking a landlord training on fair housing.
I will be open to considering new policies, practices, and legislation; I won’t automatically dismiss changes that reduce my profits.
I will make annual donations to at least one group that supports tenants.
